BEHIND THE MEAT – JAAKkOLA REINDEER FARM

Our reindeer graze in the Pyhä-Kallio reindeer herd area, which is located in the municipalities of Rovaniemi, Kemijärvi, Sodankylä, and Pelkosenniemi and covers an area of almost 3800 m2. The north end of the herd area is bordered by Pyhä-Luosto National Park and the herd area itself includes diverse wetlands, barren fell landscapes, spruce forests, and good lichen habitats. Our reindeer meat is already cut, vacuum-packed, and equipped with all the markings required by law. Because the reindeer’s slaughter season is limited to the late autumn, the meat is hung, cut, packed, and preserved by freezing immediately after slaughter.
